friday evening>

we've now had two days in a row without a drop of rain... and temperatures continue their rapid warm-up. the high this afternoon at the weathergeek office was 30c/86f... with further warming expected over the weekend into early next week. the middle and upper levels of the atmosphere have also warmed, and without much cold air aloft, it's hard to generate the instability for thunderstorms... we call it a "cap". with this cap in place, a dry forecast looks good for a few more days. there could always be an isolated thundershower during the late afternoon... but those chances are looking slim until perhaps the middle of next week.

*MONSOON WATCH** as expected, the northeastern front of the monsoon has advanced eastward from kolkata to kathmandu in the last couple of days. but further west, the leading edge has stalled out across gujarat and madhya pradesh. there will likely be little north and eastward movement for the next couple of days...with this blocking pattern in place.
