wednesday evening (22sep)>

moderate to heavy rain has been falling in mcleod ganj early this evening... after a day of occasional showers.  as of 5pm, i had about a third of an inch (8mm)... but much more has fallen in the past hour.  updates will be posted later this evening.

**UPDATE @ 800pm**
-rainfall today (so far) in upper mcleod ganj... 0.81" (2.0cm)
-our high temp of 17.6C (63.7F) was the coolest since 6 july.

it looks like we could be in for more heavy rainfall overnight.  the satellite pics show a very large area of rain extending from northern rajasthan, across punjab, into about the western half of himachal pradesh.  this rain is associated with a strong tropical disturbance which will continue to drift northward during the next 24 hours or so.  it is possible that we could remain on the northern fringe of this system, but if it holds together during its northward drift, we could see some rainfall amounts in excess of 2" (5cm) overnight and on thursday.  stay tuned!

by friday, it looks like we are going to "turn the corner" with regard to this monsoon season.  all signs point to an intrusion of drier air in all levels of the atmosphere, which should bring an end to the rains, the persistent fog and high humidity.  sunshine AND temperatures will be on the increase over the weekend...
