approaching status quo... (pm.21.apr.11)>

we have partly cloudy skies before sunset... a gorgeous evening after a beautiful morning and a less than gorgeous afternoon!  we dodged the bullet yesterday, but today during the mid-afternoon we did catch the dying gasp of a mountain thundershower which brought very gusty winds and some sprinkles to the area.  the rain wasn't measurable, but was definitely a punctuation mark in the middle of an otherwise super nice day.  i recorded a high temp of 74.5F (23.6C), which ties with the high on april 15th as the warmest of the month.

as i've been mentioning, we still have a lingering pool of cold air in the upper atmosphere which is causing some instability during the afternoon hours, during the maximum heating of the day.  this instability will decrease little by little during the coming days, but i think there remains a decent shot at some of this mountain build-up of clouds maturing into a rogue thundershower or two during the afternoons.  but really, it's all minor compared to the shift in the overall weather pattern that is already in progress.

we are still in line for a consistent and steady warming trend, which shows no signs of being interrupted by upper-level disturbances, as has been the case for most of this spring season.  high pressure will continue to strengthen aloft, and temperatures at the surface will continue to climb.  there is a pretty good chance that we could end the month of april with above normal temperatures for a change...
