positive steps... (am.20.apr.11)>

it is very refreshing to see clear skies at dawn this morning!  i have a temp of 53.2F (11.8C) to kick off the day.  satellite pics are showing no organized areas of clouds or precipitation across the western himalayas at the moment.

but... be aware that our sunshine this morning may be deceiving.  although the storm system of the last few days has disintegrated for the most part, there is still a large pool of very cold air in the upper atmosphere extending from northern pakistan across northern india into western tibet.  as the sun heats up the surface later this morning and early afternoon, we will likely see clouds and scattered thundershowers rapidly develop.  this chance of afternoon showers will gradually diminish during the next couple of days, hopefully, as a more stable airmass takes over.

all the computer models continue to forecast a transition to a very summer-like pattern during the next several days.  the active jetstream embedded with a constant parade of disturbances will virtually disappear, allowing for generally dry and sunny weather, along with some dramatic warming.

WEDNESDAY: sunshine this morning, but becoming partly cloudy by afternoon with a couple of thundershowers possible.  a bit milder...
high: 21C (69F)

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: chance of an evening shower, then becoming mostly clear.
low: 13C (55F)

THURSDAY: morning sun, some afternoon clouds, with a risk of a passing shower.
high: 22C (71F)

FRIDAY: sunny to partly cloudy skies... warming up.
high: 23C (73F)

SATURDAY: mostly sunny and pleasantly warm.
high: 24C (75F)

EASTER SUNDAY: lots of sunshine... warm.
high: 25C (77F)
