mid-point of may... (am.15.may.11)>

it is 70.0F (21.1C) before sunrise this morning, with clear skies and some light haze.  the view from space shows clear skies across all of pakistan and northern india.

as we approach the mid-point of may, i am noticing that we've only received 0.73" (1.9cm) of rainfall, and we've just had four days with a high temp below 80F (26.7C).  that means that so far, the month of may is running drier and warmer than normal.  and it looks like that trend will continue.

a massive, sprawling area of summer-time high pressure in the upper atmosphere will dominate our weather pattern for the next 3-4 days... featuring sunshine and very warm temperatures.  the dust, smoke and pollution has become trapped again, so haze will thicken again as the heat builds.  other than a random, rogue thundershower over the mountains during the afternoon hours, there is very little chance of any rainfall until about the middle of the week.  an upper-level disturbance may "flatten" our high pressure ridge starting on wednesday, leading to some instability and an increasing chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms for the latter part of the week.  i think we have definitely reached the point where some rainfall would be very welcome.

brace yourself for the warmest temps of the season between now and wednesday... even overnight lows will be less merciful.  but this is it, folks... mid-may to mid-june usually tends to be the warmest stretch of the year in mcleod.
