shower-cooled air... (am.6.may.11)>

it's fresh and comfortably cool early this morning... thanks to last night's thundershowers.  my low temp was 60.2F (15.7C), and there is 0.20" (5mm) in the rain gauge.  we have partly cloudy skies just a few minutes prior to sunrise.

an upper level disturbance is trekking across the area now, and we will remain under its effects for another 24 to 36 hours or so.  at the moment, there are only a few light sprinkles and showers leftover from last night, but with daytime heating, i expect more scattered showers and storms to pop up.  the air in the upper atmosphere is much colder than the airmass here at the surface, and combine that with a bit of vorticity (circulation or spin) aloft, and you have a recipe for some disturbed weather.  the best chance of more measurable rain (about 60% likelihood) will come today and tonight, with chances diminishing thereafter.

we'll enjoy cooler temperatures both today and tomorrow, but then warmer air will surge back up the hill for the start of the new week.  at the moment, sunday is looking like the nicest day of the next several...
