thunderstorm possible... (pm.12.may.11)>

[click the *HAPPENING NOW* tab above for updates on potential thunderstorms tonight]

the temperature edged up just a little more today... i recorded a high temp of 85.6F (29.8C), and the humidity was only around 20% for much of the afternoon.  we have mostly sunny skies currently, athough it is hazy and there are a few clouds hovering over the mountains.

despite the lack of thunder action here, satellite photos this evening show a developing area of showers and thunderstorms to our northwest across northern pakistan and kashmir.  this storminess is associated with the latest weak upper-level disturbance which will be moving through the area during the next 24 hour or so.  although moisture is severely limited (as evidenced by our super-low humidity), the atmosphere is quite unstable, and it won't take much energy and colder air aloft to spark off a thunderstorm or two.  i would put the probability at 50-60% between now and tomorrow evening.

by saturday, high pressure aloft is going to begin to strengthen even further, and that will allow the heat to build even more.  the instability in the atmosphere should diminish though... which should all but erase our thunder chances for the weekend into early next week.  there's no stopping summer now...
