wettest day of the month... (pm.27.may.11)>

it is turning out to be a very nice evening, after kind of a wild day.  thunderstorms swept through during the pre-dawn hours... there was another round of light to moderate showers during the mid-morning... and then an extended period of thundershowers during the mid-afternoon which delivered an additional 0.58" (1.5cm) of rainfall to the day's total.  records show that we've had the wettest day since the 18th of april.  here are the specs:

high temp: 73.8F (23.2C)
low temp: 61.9F (16.6C)
total rainfall since midnight: 1.08" (2.7cm)

the upper-level disturbance responsible for our very active day of weather was several hours late in arriving, but didn't fail to deliver some much appreciated rainfall and a nice refreshing shot of cooler air.  this system pretty much blew itself out over us this afternoon, and now it looks like we'll see a bit quieter pattern for the next several days.  still, there will be some pockets of instability drifting by, so 20-30% chances of mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms will remain in the forecast right into the middle of next week.  the vast majority of our days will be dry, with plenty of summer sun, but continue to be aware of the thundershower risk.

temperatures will warm up rapidly over the weekend, and stay very close to the late may climatological averages as we wrap up the month and make the transition to june...
