drip drip drip... (am.9.sep.11)>

yesterday's high temp: 73.2F (22.9C)
this morning's low temp: 64.6F (18.1C)
24 hour rainfall as of 6:30am: 1.77" (4.5cm)

skies are cloudy and light rain is falling at sunrise this morning.  although there was a lot of thunder and lightning last night, and it has been raining off and on, there has only been an additional 0.33" (8mm) in the rain gauge during the past 12 hours or so.  the vast majority of our 24 hour total came during yesterday afternoon.

i'm still a bit stunned by some of the rainfall amounts being forecast between now and saturday afternoon by a couple of the usually reliable computer models.  there is a bull's eye of 10-15cm (4-6") right over the northwest half of himachal pradesh.  it will be interesting to see if we get anywhere close to that during the coming 24 to 36 hours.

by late saturday, the flow in the lower and middle layers of the atmosphere is going to shift, and that should diminish our rain potential for at least a couple of days.  having said that, there will still be lots of tropical moisture in the air, so we won't yet be saying "goodbye" to monsoon 2011...

FRIDAY: mostly cloudy with periods of fog and rain likely.  heavy rain potential remains, with some thunder possible again as well.
high: 22C (71F)

FRIDAY NIGHT: partly to mostly cloudy.  foggy at times, with more rain likely.
low: 18C (64F)

SATURDAY: still a good chance of a couple of rounds of moderate to heavy rain.  otherwise partly to mostly cloudy with some fog at times.
high: 22C (72F)

SUNDAY: a mix of sun, clouds and a period or two of fog.  a shower or two, mainly in the PM.
high: 23C (74F)

MONDAY: partly sunny.  a period or two of fog and rain, mainly in the afternoon.
high: 23C (74F)

TUESDAY: a couple of showers possible, otherwise partly sunny with occasional fog.
high: 23C (73F)
