struggling sunshine... (am.11.sep.11)>

our sunday morning is dawning beautifully... with partly cloudy skies and good visibilities, due to a total lack of fog.  humidity remains rather high though, at 83%, after a couple of light showers around 4-5am delivered 0.02" of rain.  this morning's low temp was 66F (19C).

i've made a couple of excursions into the forest above town during the past few days, and am noticing that the ferns and mosses on south and west-facing slopes are rapidly yellowing and drying out.  but in areas with just northern and eastern exposure, the growth is still very robust and green. during the next couple of weeks, as we get a greater and greater percentage of sunshine, and a gradual drop in average daily humidity, we should see more yellowing.  this process is a reliable natural gauge of the monsoon's incremental departure.

despite these positive signs, periods of fog and occasional moderate to heavy downpours will remain in the forecast through the week, with the latter part of the week again looking to hold the best potential for the wettest weather, as another surge of tropical moisture moves northward.
