bright and pleasant... (am.12.oct.11)>

our sky is totally clear at sunrise this morning.  humidity is a bit higher than the past few mornings, at 68%, and we've had an overnight low temp of 62.2F (16.8C).

it's amazing that we've been able to hang on to this mild weather for so long this year.  but really, very little about the past month has been normal.  temperatures are still running about 5-6F (2-3C) above average for mid-october, and should remain that way into the weekend.

the upper-air pattern is shifting around right now, in advance of an upper-level disturbance that will move through here on friday and saturday.  there is virually no moisture for this system to work with, however, so any shower and thunderstorm activity will be extremely limited.  the main thing that will happen as it goes by, is that the next batch of even drier central asian air will sweep in behind it... lowering our humidity even more.

this is an excellent time to be out enjoying the mountains... just remember that even during quiet weather patterns, things can change rapidly above 2700m (9000ft).  stay aware and prepared.
