beastly: the sequel... (am.14.apr.12)>

It is totally overcast this morning, with gusty winds and a few sprinkles of rain.  We had a long period of rainy weather overnight... with some thunder and lightning as it first arrived right around midnight.  I've recorded 1.02" (2.6cm), with a low temperature of 50.0F (10.0C).  That's the coolest temp since 15th March!

That area of thunderstorms we were talking about which was rapidly developing last night in eastern Pakistan obviously held together long enough to deliver us a healthy dose of rainfall.  This latest round of wet and stormy weather is a result of yet another in a series of upper-level disturbances we've been watching for nearly all of this past week.  I wish I could say that this is the end of it... but the pattern in the upper-atmosphere continues to be rather active, which will keep pockets of instability floating through northern India through tomorrow evening.  Although we should still get periods of sunshine over the weekend, it's a very good idea to keep in mind the risk of a sudden period of thundershowers, and be prepared to seek shelter.  I don't envy people who were trying to camp out in the mountains last night... it looks like there is new snow not too far above Triund.

Starting on Monday, there are indications that a high pressure ridge will attempt to build across northern India.  That should allow the atmosphere to stabilize... and also to warm up dramatically.  Although we are running about 4-5C (7-9F) below normal recently, we should be returning to mid-April norms by Tuesday and Wednesday...
