braced for heat... (am.24.may.12)>

Another morning getting started with 100% sunshine.  I've recorded a very mild overnight low of 70.5F (21.4C), and there has been no rainfall since last report.

At my recording spot on Tushita Road, just below the mountaineering center, the high temperature for 2012 thus far has been 88.5F (31.4C) on the 16th of May.  It looks like that mark is in jeopardy between this afternoon and Saturday, as the latest bubble of very warm air surges into the area from the south-southwest.  We've already exceeded the high temp for all of 2011, which was 86.5F (30.3C), also on the 16th of May -- and we'll be watching closely to see if we can surpass the warmest of 2010, which was 90.3F (32.4C) on the 26th of May.  So, suffice it to say, we're dealing with temperatures that are close to the warmest we ever get up here at our elevation.

There will be a fast-moving upper-level disturbance skipping across north India on Saturday, which will provide a chance of a round of thunderstorms over the weekend...  but then high pressure aloft is expected to re-build for the first part of next week.  Get ready for an extended stretch of summer weather...!
