summer showcase... (pm.19.may.12)>

Some clouds are hovering around/along the mountains this evening, otherwise we have mostly sunny skies before sunset.  The cricket match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala is in progress, and our part of the world is looking very enticing on TV!  Although we had some thunder off and on between about 1:00 and 3:30pm, there was never any rainfall that I've heard about.  Sunshine maintained control for a majority of the day, boosting my high temp in the upper part of town to 88.2F (31.2C) -- the second warmest of the year.

There are mainly light thundershowers scattered all along the Himalayan chain of mountains this evening, thanks to afternoon heating interacting with colder air aloft and a few weak upper-level disturbances.  Moisture remains very limited, so there's still not much significant rainfall occurring.  A stronger, more organized disturbance is expected to drop into north India from the west-northwest late Sunday into Tuesday, which could give us a better chance of some measurable rainfall.  The water supply is already becoming scarce in parts of town, so we're actually in need of a good rain.  But by the middle of the coming week, a ridge of high pressure will build in, cutting off the potential for showers and thunderstorms again.

We're in the midst of a long streak of warm weather -- a few degrees above normal for this stage of May -- and it looks like we don't stand a chance of cooling down very much unless we can capitalize on the chance of thunderstorms between late Sunday and Tuesday...
