monsoon masala... (am.19.jul.12)>

Sunshine has returned this morning, after more thundershowers between about 12:30am and 2:30am.  I recorded an additional 0.35" (9mm) of rain here in the upper part of town, which brings our total since noon yesterday (Wednesday) up to 1.66" (4.2cm).  My overnight low temp was 66.4F (19.1C).

The overnight thundershowers have temporarily chased the bulk of our tropical moisture southeastward once again, so we should have some dry and quiet weather at least for much of the morning.  For the past several days we've been watching this new surge of monsoon conditions as it prepares to push back northwestward into our area.  We had our first taste of it yesterday and last night, but we'll be waiting for more sustained tropical moisture during the coming few days, as it arrives in waves.  Be prepared for rapid changes... from sun to clouds and some fog at times, along with sudden development of showers and thundershowers during the next 24-36 hours.

I'm curious to see how much sunshine will be able to poke through over the weekend into early next week.  Right now it's too early to say whether we'll remain at the full saturation point with persistent clouds and fog, but it is likely that we'll see less sun than we've been able to muster during much of the past week or so.  It's also likely that we'll see at least a couple of rounds of heavy rainfall, perhaps amounting to 3-5" (7-13cm), especially between Friday afternoon and Monday.
