changes ahead... (pm.09.jan.13)>

Wednesday's stats:

Early morning low temp: 41.7F (5.4C)
Afternoon high temp: 52.2F (11.2C)
Rainfall: none

We did indeed experience a modest warm-up today -- my high temperature in the upper part of McLeod Ganj was the warmest I've recorded since the 29th of December.  Overnight clouds were already in the process of clearing out early this morning, leaving us with mostly sunny skies for the remainder of the day.

After a long stretch of generally stable and settled weather, we are on the brink of a turn to a prolonged period of a more changeable and potentially disturbed weather pattern.  The next couple of days will remain quiet, but by Saturday, we'll be feeling the effects of a dying storm system which is now moving into Iraq.  Although this system is expected to be in the process of falling apart as it reaches northern India, computer models are coming into slightly better agreement on the chance for some light precipitation on Saturday.  Temperatures in advance of this system will probably be the mildest we've seen since around Christmas -- a reprieve from our recent January cold snap.

Colder air will again arrive by Monday of next week, and extended range upper-air data is pointing toward a developing wintry/stormy scenario over the western Himalayan region by the middle of next week.  We're desperately in need of moisture, so some rain and snow would be more than welcome.
