We've had partly cloudy skies all day long, and scattered clouds remain just after sunset as well. It never did become totally overcast today, but the sun had some competition, compared to recent days.
The upper-atmosphere is a bit disturbed and unsettled right now, which will be the case into Saturday as well. A large pocket of very cold air aloft is sliding southeastward from central Asia into north India, and with some milder air in the mid-levels, there will be enough instability to generate some cloudiness at times, along with the off-chance of a stray sprinkle or light shower somewhere. This is really a non-event, but considering the benign weather of the past 20 days or so, even the weakest disturbance becomes something to watch.!
The rest of the forecast period and beyond -- even all the way into next weekend -- looks extremely quiet and dry, with not even the slightest hint of a storm system capable of bringing us any much-needed winter moisture. We're approaching the one-year anniversary of the massive snowstorm which brought more than two feet of snow to the middle of McLeod, and at least a couple of inches of white stuff as far south as Una in Himachal. No chance of a repeat of that scenario anytime soon.
On the other hand, we'll have some cold temperatures during the next several days -- near to slightly below normal for this stage of January...
