a strong start... (pm.02.aug.13)>

Friday's stats:

Low temp: 64.0F (17.8C)
High temp: 68.9F (20.5C)
Rainfall since midnight: 3.41" (8.7cm)

We're not even two full days into August, and I've already measured more rain than I did during the last 10 days of July.  That total stands at 6.34" (16.1cm), and it's been more than double that amount downhill in some areas in and around Dharamsala.  The rain did taper off around noon, as expected, and we've had a slow and gradual clearing trend underway throughout the afternoon into the evening hours.  Despite the appearance of some sunshine late today, humidity remains above 90%.

It still appears that there could be a bit of a respite in store for us over the weekend, as prime conditions for tropical moisture being shoved up against the mountains relax.  That doesn't mean our rain chances will disappear, but I'll be very surprised if we continue to see the massive 24-hour totals of the past couple of days.  Just continue to be prepared for sudden downpours on both Saturday and Sunday.

The next alignment for strong monsoon conditions will come together again starting on Monday, and should last through Wednesday, according to the latest computer model data.  The average rainfall for August is right around 35" (89cm), and it sure looks like we'll be off to a good start as we wind up the first week of the month...
