the real deal... (am.07.aug.13)>

More gray and gloom out there this morning.  It's cloudy with some patchy fog and a little drizzle and very light rain at sunrise, after a rainy night.  I've recorded 1.65" (4.2cm) overnight, which brings my 24 hour total to 4.63" (11.8cm) up here on Tushita Road below the Mountaineering Center.  Heavier rainfall totals continue downhill, with 2.5" (6.4cm) reported at Norbulingka since last evening.

We're only one week into August, but it's already been one heck of a month.  There was a lot of making up to do after a fairly lackluster July, and it seems that we're well on our way in erasing those deficits.  Check the MONSOON 2013 RAINFALL tab at the top of the page to see the breakdown of rainfall stats for this monsoon season so far.

There's a bit of a lull in the action right now, but it looks like we're in store for plenty more moderate to heavy rains all the way through the weekend as prime monsoon conditions continue.  I think we will get some breaks now and then, but periods of steady rain will keep rain gauges ticking.  So far, I'm not hearing of any major problems with washed-out roads or landslides, but with the amount of water we're getting lately, I think it's inevitable that some situations may develop.  Be wary if you have to be travelling.
