cold, but brighter... (am.11.jan.14)>

We have clear skies just as the sun rises on this Saturday morning, with a humidity reading of 43%.  My low temp here in the upper part of town has been 37.0F (2.8C), and there has been 0.01" (less than 1mm) of precipitation -- all of that in the form of another couple of rounds of very light snow/sleet late last evening.  There has been a fresh dusting of snow on the hills above town, but not enough to accumulate here in McLeod.

The remnants of our latest upper-level disturbance is centered near Dehradun early this morning, after producing those scattered light showers of rain, sleet and snow across parts of Himachal Pradesh.  Today it will be quickly replaced by an aggressively building ridge of high pressure in the upper-atmosphere which will trigger a major warming trend over the course of the next few days.  The longest cold streak of the season will be coming to end by tomorrow, as we rise above 50F (10C) for the first time in nearly a week.

There will be another series of weak upper-level disturbances starting to ripple across northern India by Monday, however, and that will keep us dealing with occasional periods of clouds in the midst of the winter sunshine.  Computer models are also insisting on some light rain showers in the area on Monday and/or Tuesday, but those models have been useless in nailing down precipitation probabilities here along the front slopes of the mountains in Himachal recently... so we'll see if there might be enough moisture introduced into the equation to stir up a shower or two.
