*Update @ 8:11pm... There is rather explosive development of thunderstorms occurring to our west and south, with high cloudiness already spreading back in. Upper-level steering currents should cause this new activity to move toward us during the coming several hours. Currently it's 50.2F (10.1C), and humidity is 45%.

We're enjoying some quiet weather at sunset this evening, with partly cloudy skies and no rain at the moment. It has been quite a fickle and changeable day, with many short periods of light rain showers, with a few episodes of thunder/lightning and hail as well. But we've also managed to squeeze out some sunshine here and there -- especially this evening. Temperatures today have been pretty close to expectations. It hasn't been the greatest Uprising Day, but it could have been a lot worse. Despite the gusty winds and numerous thundershowers roaming the area today, we still haven't really picked up any very significant amounts of rainfall.
An intense upper-level low pressure circulation is spinning right along the Afghanistan/Pakistan border, and will move across central Pakistan during the next 36 hours, winding up in the vicinity of Punjab by sunrise on Wednesday. The dynamic energy of this system is impressive for this time of year -- and I think we've yet to feel its full effects. The moisture content of the atmosphere across northern India continues to increase, so as the upper-level energy gets closer and closer, there should be widespread and heavier precipitation breaking out. Satellite pics this evening are showing quite a bit of development to our south and west which will likely be moving in our direction.
Some of the computer models are projecting rainfall amounts of nearly 4" (10cm) between tonight and Wednesday morning -- and we'll soon find out if there is any truth to that. More thunderstorms and strong winds are likely as well, with heavy snow up toward Triund, which is already sufficiently buried from previous storm systems.
Right now it looks like there will be rapid improvement by Wednesday afternoon, as a ridge of high pressure begins to aggressively build across northern India. Dramatic warming is expected during the latter part of the week, taking us to new highs for the season, and for 2014.
