springtime fluctuations... (pm.06.apr.14)>

*Update @ 9:44pm... The wind is gusting, and there are some rain showers in the area.  The temperature is a very mild 63.5F (17.5C) at the moment, but some cooler air will probably be moving in before tomorrow morning... especially if shower/thunder development really gets going.

Sunday's stats:

Low temp: 58.6F (14.8C)
High temp: 69.3F (20.7C)
Rainfall: trace

It's mostly cloudy at sunset this evening, and we're finishing up yet another day of extreme variability in cloud cover.  There have been some nice periods of sunshine, but also a couple of periods of very grey and gloomy cloudiness -- with a few sprinkles of rain and some gusty winds thrown into the mix here and there.  Although my thermometer in the upper part of town didn't make it quite to 70F (21.1C), my high temp (above) was the highest of the season and 2014.  That temperature actually occurred during the late morning.

An upper-level disturbance is centered over extreme eastern Afghanistan this evening, and is expected to move due eastward during the coming 24 hours, winding up nearly right on top of us by this time tomorrow evening.  I'm surprised at the inconsistency in computer model data in terms of total precipitation forecasts as this system moves through -- ranging from very light amounts (less than 0.20"/5mm) to totals approaching one inch (2.5cm).  We'll just have to watch what kind of development gets going later tonight into Monday -- but it appears that the bulk of rainfall potential should be confined to late tonight through tomorrow evening.  We need to be prepared for some thunder and very gusty winds in association with the whole package as well.

Tuesday is looking better and better, according to the latest data, though there could still be an isolated thundershower or two popping up during the PM thanks to some lingering instability.  The rest of the week should be relatively quiet, though I'm afraid our temperatures are going to remain several degrees cooler than normal for the first half of April.
