We have totally clear skies at dusk on this Holi evening, with that massive snow pack visible on the Dhauladhar range to our north and east. This morning started out with a good amount of sunshine, but we did see a major build-up of clouds over the mountains by early afternoon, which led to a brief period of sprinkles and very light showers between 4:00 and 4:30pm, along with some kind of sleet/hail mixed in. But then skies cleared out very rapidly again shortly thereafter. Today's high temperature was the mildest of this relatively young month of March.
It's another one of those 'in between' phases that we are in the middle of right now, as we await the next significant storm system which is just now starting to take shape in the vicinity of eastern Iran. This tolerable and generally quiet weather situation will continue through most of tomorrow (Sat), though it's fairly likely that we'll be seeing the sun disappear behind increasing cloudiness by mid-day at the latest. The risk of some rain shower development enters the picture by late in the afternoon, with a rapidly increasingly likelihood of rain by midnight into the early morning hours of Sunday. We'll have to brace ourselves for yet another period of moderate to heavy rain which could be accompanied by thunder and gusty winds -- lasting into mid-day Monday. The snow line will lurk very far downhill for this late in the year, but certainly should stay above us.
A ridge of high pressure is going to aggressively build across north India on Tuesday into Wednesday, and that should provide us with a dramatic warm-up during the middle of next week. There is a threat of more showers by late Thursday, however, which we'll have to keep an eye on...
