Other than a few small patches of mid-level clouds our sky is mostly clear as the sun begins to peek over the Dhauladhars this morning. The night has been quiet and uneventful, with no rainfall to report, and a low temperature of 67.5F (19.7C) here at my location on Tushita Road just below the mountaineering center. That low temp is the warmest one I've recorded since the early morning of the 29th of May.
We're definitely in a rhythm the last several days, with temperatures steadily climbing on a daily basis, a majority of sunshine on a daily basis, and thundershower development along the mountains during the afternoons -- also on a daily basis. This kind of pattern is spot-on normal for this time of year, but I remember Junes past when it was either stiflingly hot and humid, or much cloudier and rainier by now. So... I guess we're doing OK. The general weather pattern shouldn't change much during the remainder of this week, so expect more of this mix of sun and occasional clouds along with the daily spells of afternoon thunder development over the mountains which could affect us for an hour or two. Temperatures may yet warm another couple of degrees above and beyond what we've seen yet this month.
A bit further ahead, there are signs of a fairly significant increase in the moisture content of the air mass across Himalayan north India by Sunday or Monday. It's not yet the leading edge of the monsoon, but it could be a step in that direction. We'll have to watch and see if there might be a major jump in our humidity situation, along with the risk of some heavier downpours of rain. Stay tuned.
